Most people are experiencing some sort of anxiety or stress in these uncertain times. There are a number of ways that people deal with problems.

Many people have considerable stress over the last few months and this has resulted in :

  • Overeating
  • Alcohol abuse
  • Drug abuse
  • Smoking
  • Relationship problems

These then have a flow on effect and can lead to new bad  habits.

So how can an unhealthy habit be overcome? Is it purely through willpower or self-control?

A recent check on Google revealed ‘Can willpower overcome bad habits’ and it showed the top search results in this area was ‘How to break a bad habit permanently‘ showing that this is indeed a hot topic.

It offered first up some very helpful advice;

  1. Choose a substitute for your bad habit
  2. Cut out as many triggers as possible
  3. Join forces with somebody

It was at number 3 that I stopped because seeking help from someone, I believe, is the key.

What’s the saying? ‘A problem shared is a problem halved.’

It may be that a new and better habit needs to replace the old bad habit along with a shift of thinking to create change.

Having a third party to help create these new thought patterns, thinking about what new habits you can create, can open up a whole new way working your way through to success.

Using a coach to support you through these enhancements to your lifestyle could hold the key.

One of the tools that can be used is hypnotherapy which has helped many people overcome negative habits that have surfaced over lockdown. Hypnotherapy addresses underlying beliefs and habits. It may be just that a new, better habit needs to replace the old bad habit or there needs to be a shift of thinking to create change.
